The next meeting of the Captiva Community Panel is set for Tuesday, Aug. 14, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Cone Rooms on Chadwicks Square at South Seas Island Resort. This meeting is open to all interested islanders and the public.
Two public information meetings are scheduled:
- “Chadwicks Square, associated with South Seas Island Resort, is located at the northernmost end of Captiva Island in Lee County. At the western edge of the shopping plaza is an existing Starbucks Coffee Shop with a single entry and exit. Starbucks and South Seas Island Resort have been coordinating to update the interior of the coffee shop to improve internal circulation. This remodeling will include and second entrance/exit point facing Captiva Drive as well as a wooden deck and paved patio between the northern façade of Starbucks and Captiva Drive. A setback variance is requested to memorialize the location of the existing building and permit a wooden deck and stairwell facing Captiva Drive.”
- “On behalf of Steven D. Cobb, Manager of EMK Properties LLC, Morris-Depew Associates, Inc., is submitting an Administrative Variance Application in conjunction with the Type E Limited Review Development Order Application (LDO2017-00073). The Administrative Variance Application request is to seek relief by granting a variance of 4 inches from the required 7-foot side setback; thus, memorializing the existing side setback condition associated with an existing non-conforming structure at 15180 Wiles Drive.”
Among the other agenda items will be an update on a proposed request for county funding to support the ongoing Captiva Code work; a discussion of red tide and Lake Okeechobee releases, plus committee reports and update from other island organizations.
Public participation is invited and encouraged. The next Captiva Community Panel meeting tentatively will be Sept. 11. Information and background documents are available online at www.captivacommunitypanel.com.
